‘Activate RSE’

An exciting new facilitator training course from Apause for learners of all abilities

Delivered by Lead Trainer David Evans

Hundreds of schools have put their trust in our evidence-based practices. As an Apause trainer for twenty-five years, I have applied drama and ‘performative’ techniques to find solutions to a commonly identified challenge in RSE/PSHE. .

“…pupils often had learnt about staying safe but had not developed the skills to enable them to apply their knowledge.” (HMI 2012)

We all experience life through a variety of language forms, including visual, physical, verbal, number and digital media. A ‘performative’ approach brings these forms to the classroom, where it becomes a fun and interactive space of emojis, masks, mirror games and role-plays. ‘Performatives’ happen when these language forms are actively used by students as they experience, enact and transform themselves and their social worlds.

Used imaginatively, these methods are inclusive and enjoyable, meeting the needs of different learning styles and abilities. All the techniques explored during the training will be used to construct learning experiences around key themes such as ‘consent’ and ‘sexualities’.

2018 Feedback

“A very useful session, that was fun to take part in and will inform my practice in future.” (Teacher - Prague British School))

“I think the session was brilliant, interactive and enjoyable.” (Student – St Bede’s Catholic College Bristol)
